Be a legend of your own making
Brian Clark at Copyblogger talks about how David Lee Roth "is a legend of his own making" in his post "The David Lee Roth Guide to Legendary Marketing."
Clark lists the methods Roth has used to successfully market his larger-than-life persona over the years. He's written the post as a lesson for bloggers and online marketers, but let's see how this applies to speakers, shall we?
Be Fearless - don't worry about the 5 or 10% of the people you can't satisfy - focus on the 90% who love what you do
Give (the) People What They Want (the Kinks said it best) - not what you think they should want
Sell Something Big - this is where "larger than life" comes into play - put yourself out there and don't hold back
Be True to Yourself - don't try to be something or someone you're not when you're on stage
Let the Legend Roll - it's not what you say about yourself, it's what your audience says about you that counts.
David Lee Roth may not be the perfect role model for a speaker, but he's unforgettable, and you should be, too.

Perfect timing on this blog!
Van Halen reunion tour!!!
Can't wait - Let the legend (rock 'n') ROLL
(and MAN I wish I could kick like that!)
Yeah, Brian Clark mentioned it on his blog. I always liked DLR, although I can't say I'm a huge Van Halen fan. Good for them that they could work out their differences after all this time.
